We'd really encourage you to join this free panel discussion on Thursday, 4th June at 7pm about the proposed changes to UK furniture fire safety regulations and what they could mean for our industry.
You can join either in person at Shoreditch Design Rooms or via Zoom.
It'll be a relaxed and informative conversation covering:
- What the proposed changes actually mean
- Why this consultation matters to upholsterers, makers and designers
- How to respond to the consultation online
- Live Q&A with the panel
The discussion will also explore the push to reduce the use of harmful flame-retardant chemicals in upholstery while maintaining fire safety standards.
Back in 2022, 5,793 upholsterers responded to the previous consultation, helping us reach this stage. There's still a lot of lobbying against these proposed changes, so every response genuinely matters.
The panel includes:
- Delyth Fetherston Dylke – upholsterer, designer and educator specialising in sustainable furniture, natural materials and healthy interiors
- Mathew Freeman – BIID interior designer whose work focuses on wellbeing, sustainability and healthier material choices within interiors
- Sonnaz Nooranvary – upholsterer, designer and sustainability advocate, well known from BBC's The Repair Shop, campaigning for less toxic approaches to furniture manufacturing and restoration
- Sharon O'Connor – founder of Vintique Upholstery, specialising in restoring vintage and much-loved furniture through traditional craftsmanship and sustainable practices
