The Derbyshire County Council Ashbourne Centre has provided high quality upholstery courses since it opened in 1968. The Centre has been delivering AMUSF upholstery qualification since 2017. We are OFSTED inspected.

Our upholstery courses take place in a fully-functioning workshop studio environment at Battersea in Central London.

Amongst the industry the school is regarded as a centre of excellence in its teaching of upholstery, with a 100% pass rate and 65% distinction rate for the AMUSF diploma.
With an emphasis on experience at the bench, all AMUSF tutors at the school have long term practical experience running successful businesses, ensuring each student can benefit from their accumulated knowledge on both the practical and commercial sides of the trade.
Gregory and Gareth are the only two tutors nationwide currently teaching the AMUSF diploma programme who are certificated members of the Guild of Traditional Upholsterers having sat and passed the exam.

Based in rural Suffolk, the Horsehair and Hessian workshop is a hub for creativity and learning. Our senior tutor Hannah has been teaching upholstery throughout East Anglia for many years. Her passion is great upholstery and ensuring the techniques and skills are shared with future upholsterers, to give them the very best foundations for their future in the industry.
With a relaxed and professional approach to teaching, ensuring that every student can achieve the very best results, through a personal and adaptive approach to learning. There is nothing better than seeing a student produce a stunning piece of work that they can be truly proud of.
Horsehair and Hessian is a small teaching facility, with a well equipped workshop allowing students to benefit from small classes and lots of individual attention throughout the duration of their courses.
Furniture has been designed, made, upholstered and restored at The School of Art Architecture & Design, London Metropolitan University (formerly the London College of Furniture) for nearly 50 years.
The school offers a unique learning experience, encouraging excellence and creativity within a university environment, with expert tuition by experienced professionals recognised within the industry along with technical support, professionally equipped workshop facilities and an extensive library.
The University has strong links with the upholstery industry and the Livery companies, with The Worshipful Company of Upholders awarding prizes for outstanding student work at their annual award ceremony.
The School of Art, Architecture & Design is an approved AMUSF training centre delivering the AMUSF qualification in upholstery. More detailed information on the upholstery courses, how to apply and our open days can be found on our website.

Qualified tutor, approved school, delivering Essential Soft Furnishings'
Maggi Loughran trained at the highly renowned London College of Furniture and now has 25 years' experience in both making and teaching soft furnishings and upholstery.
After qualifying Maggi was offered a post at London Metropolitan University and worked there as the senior technician and part time tutor in the textile area for 21 years.
Past commissions have included Cinderella's coach at Euro Disney, work for Chatsworth House and Soft Furnishings for the Oxford Library.
Maggi has been awarded a Licentiate from City & Guilds in 1996 in acknowledgement for her work as a soft furnisher and tutor and also elected as an Honorary Yeoman in 2012 from the Worshipful Company of Upholders in recognition for her teaching.
After leaving her full time post at the University three years ago, Maggi has set up two new spaces; one for the business side and the other a training area for students where she teaches a variety of Soft Furnishing skills.
Maria's Traditional Upholstery Workshop is located at Meppershall in the Bedfordshire countryside. We are a business which aims to provide a professional and friendly service.
